LIP-LIFT
A lip-lift is a surgical procedure to increase the amount of pink lip you see, helping lips look youthful and full. It is a cosmetic procedure that modifies the appearance of the lips by reshaping them to increase prominence of the vermilion border; and to enhance the area above the lips into a more aesthetically-pleasing shape.
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM FILLER?
Filler is a procedure that needs to be repeated and patients are looking for a more permanent and consistent result. People are now focusing on the more nuanced appearance of their lips, which this surgery addresses elegantly, quickly and permanently. It is an especially good option for individuals who desire additional height instead of volume in their lips.
INDICATIONS
A lip-lift is a good option for older individuals who would like to reduce the space between the lips and the nose. With age, this space typically increases resulting in the lips looking thinner.
Younger individuals who have not achieved the look they desire from fillers, or if fillers make their lips look unnaturally plump, may prefer a lip lift.
Lip-lifts are permanent, so they are helpful for individuals who are tired of the upkeep of fillers.
PROCEDURE
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and is a short (less than one hour) procedure. Dr Sofianos makes an incision that is typically hidden along the base of the nose so it is not as visible. The shape of the incision is that of a bullhorn so that the centre, right, and left of the lip are all pulled upwards, toward the base of the nose. Essentially a wedge of skin is removed — the larger the wedge removed, the greater the lift of the lips. The scarring is usually hidden in the shadow beneath the base of the nose.
RECOVERY
The procedure is performed as a day case. Stitches are remove after one week; then the scarring will heal and gradually fade within a year after the procedure. Individuals can return to work within a day or two; the scar will remain visible and pink but may be covered with make-up within two weeks of the procedure.
