PROMINENT EAR CORRECTION

Whether your little one has prominent ears or you yourself have struggled with prominent ears, ear correction surgery can set your ears back into a position to allow you to feel comfortable in yourself.

INDICATIONS

For children and adults who have faced teasing and low self-esteem due to larger, prominent ears or have struggled with ears that are disproportionate to the rest of the face, ear correction surgery or otoplasty can reduce the impact of your ears on your first impression, and enhance your self-confidence. Undergoing this surgery as a child is beneficial to avoid further damage to your child’s self-confidence. For children, ear correction surgery or ear pinning is even more simple as the cartilage in the ears is softer, allowing for improved results.

PROCEDURE

For both children and adults, ear correction surgery is done the same way. Prior to surgery, your plastic surgeon will discuss and explain the planned procedure to you. Using local anaesthetic Dr Sofianos will make small incisions in the natural crease behind the ear. The protruding ear is then reshaped, reduced and readjusted to create a less overwhelming look. Finally, small stitches are used to pin the ear in place.

RECOVERY

Once the local anaesthetic wears off, you can expect minimal pain near the incisions. You will wear a bandage around your head specially moulded to allow for undisturbed settling of the cartilage and healing of the skin. This will remain in place for a week. Bruising and swelling should last less than three weeks. Results of otoplasty are lifelong.
