LABIAPLASTY

Labiaplasty is a female genital rejuvenation procedure that reduces the length of the labia minora so they do not hang below the labia majora.

INDICATIONS

Vaginal rejuvenation refers to several different aesthetic procedures for female genitalia and includes procedures such as labiaplasty and vaginoplasty. Labiaplasty is the most commonly performed vaginal rejuvenation technique and aims to relieve symptoms experienced due to twisting and tugging of the labia. Twisting and tugging of the labia causes distress, itching, irritation and consequently makes a woman feel self-consciousness, when performing day-to-day activities such as riding a bike or sexual intercourse.

PROCEDURE

Labiaplasty is can be done under either local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthesia. Dr Sofianos will advise you on the suggested procedure. The most widely-performed labiaplasty is the trim procedure, in which the excess soft tissue is trimmed and closed directly. An alternative technique is the wedge procedure, as it preserves the natural border after a triangular piece of tissue has been removed. Extra folds of the clitoral hood may also be reduced simultaneously. Closure is usually done with dissolving sutures.

RECOVERY

Recovery after labiaplasty usually requires a week off from work. Dr Sofianos will prescribe pain medication to ease the recovery. Ice packs may also be sandwiched between the underpants and an elastic garment to alleviate swelling.

Patients can start having intercourse and using tampons after four weeks. Residual swelling may take up to six months to completely disappear.
